Sanur locate on the east side of Bali only few minuet drives to the west from Denpasar. sanur has many interesting places that can be visited which each of them has they own unique characteristics. Sanur beach is one the beautiful beach that owned by Bali with the quiet surf and beautiful sand.
Sanur has many interesting place where we can find anything we need like art shop, restaurant bar, motel, villas and may other. Sanur is great places where here the art has born from the local people. Even thought many artists chosen Sanur as their home stay, one of them are Le Mayeur.
Adrien Jean Le Mayeur was born in Belgian at 1880 he arrive to Sanur in 1932 at age 52 and stayed for 26 years. He is great painter who chose sanur as his home because sanur is beautiful place with great beach panorama which gives him a great inspiration to create. While staying at village of Klandis east of denpasar he meat with the beautiful Balinese Legong dancer namely Ni Polok who is give a big inspiration to Le Mayeur work and had a success exhibition at Singapore, and at the end this two person have a fall in love each other and decide to merry at 1935.
The couple lived in their lovely beach home until 1958 they are stay here and Le mayeur keep created painting and when they returned to Belgium so that he could be treated for dancer. Le mayeur died at 1958, without heirs, living his paintings to his wife. For many years Ni Polok managed the museum by herself. She died in 1985 at the age of 85. the Indonesian government now looks after the house and collection which it call the Museum Le mayeur.
This museum is located just 100 meters north of Grand Bali beach Hotel (take the lane to the right) smothered by buildings on all sides. You can also reach the museum from the beach by taking the path off Jl. Hang Tuah in north sanur. Set in a lush tropical garden of hibiscus and bougainvillea and adorned with statues, the gallery contains 92 paintings captioned in English and Indonesian, local artifacts, some superb specimens of traditional Balinese carvings.
